Terms & Conditions
Last updated: October 25, 2026
These terms apply when you use this website or take part in any FDT Training course, ground school, simulator session or flight review. By registering or using the site, you agree to them.
1. About us
FDT Training is a not-for-profit organization. You can reach us at hello@fdttraining.ca.
2. Our training and Transport Canada
Pilot certificates for remotely piloted aircraft are issued by Transport Canada. Our courses prepare you for Transport Canada exams and flight reviews, but completing a course does not by itself give you a pilot certificate, and we cannot guarantee that you will pass any exam or flight review.
FDT Training is an independent training provider.
3. Your responsibilities
- Give accurate information when you register.
- Follow instructors’ safety directions at all times during practical training and flight reviews.
- Fly only in line with the Canadian Aviation Regulations, including Part IX for remotely piloted aircraft systems, and any site rules.
- Make sure any drone you bring to a session is airworthy, registered where required, and covered by any insurance you need.
- Do not attend practical sessions while impaired by alcohol, cannabis or any other substance.
We may refuse or stop a flight activity if we believe it is unsafe.
4. Registration and fees
Many of our programs are offered free of charge. Where a fee applies, such as for some flight reviews or in-person sessions, the fee will be shown before you book. Refunds and cancellations are covered by our Refund & Cancellation Policy.
5. Copyright and trademarks
All content on this website and in our courses, including text, images, video, animations, course materials, quizzes and the FDT logo, is owned by FDT Training or used with permission. It is protected by Canadian and international copyright law.
You may view the website and use course materials for your own personal learning. You may not copy, reproduce, republish, resell, share, scrape or adapt any of this content without our written permission.
FDT Training, FDT and the FDT logo are trademarks of FDT Training. You may not use them in a way that suggests a connection with or endorsement by FDT Training without our written permission.
Content owned by others, such as linked websites and third-party materials, remains the property of its owners.
6. Copyright infringement and reporting
We respect the rights of creators and expect the same of everyone who uses this website and our courses.

False claims
Please make sure your notice is accurate. Knowingly false or misleading claims may be rejected and may expose the sender to liability.
7. Use of artificial intelligence
This website was developed in part by third-party developers, and with the help of artificial intelligence (AI) tools. AI was used to help write and organize text, create and edit images, illustrations and animations, design page layouts and write website code.
- Errors. Content created with AI tools or by third-party developers may contain errors or omissions. When we become aware of an error, we will correct it and, where it affects you, let you know. If you spot something that looks wrong, please tell us at
hello@fdttraining.ca. - Illustrative images. Some images and animations on this site were generated or edited with AI. They are illustrations and may not show real students, instructors, aircraft, locations or events.
- Not a regulatory source. Information on this site is for general guidance. Always confirm current rules and requirements with Transport Canada and the Canadian Aviation Regulations.
- Your information. We do not put personal information from students or website visitors into public AI tools. See our Privacy Policy.
- Concerns. If you believe AI-generated content on this site resembles your own work, or you have questions about how we use AI, contact us at
hello@fdttraining.caand we will review it under section 6.
AI in our training
Free Drone Training (FDT) uses AI to help train and coach our students. This includes NOVA, our AI flight instructor, and our flight review simulator, which explain what is expected, give practice feedback and assess practice flights.
AI feedback is for practice only. It is not an official Transport Canada flight review, and it can make mistakes. Always confirm requirements with the Canadian Aviation Regulations, Transport Canada guidance and your FDT instructor.
AI chat and chatbots
Our website does not currently use AI chat or AI chatbots. We may add one later, such as Tidio Chat and its Lyro AI agent or a similar service. If we do, your chat messages would be processed by that third-party provider to generate replies, and we will update these terms and our Privacy Policy before it goes live.
If we add chat, please don’t share sensitive personal information, such as government ID numbers, passwords or payment details, in it.
Not comfortable with AI?
Using AI features is your choice. If you are not comfortable with our use of AI, you can choose not to use the simulator (or AI chat, if we add it), and you are free to exit the site at any time.
You can also email us at hello@fdttraining.ca to ask about our courses or to speak with a real instructor instead.
8. Assumption of risk
Flight training involves risks, including injury and damage to property. You take part in practical sessions at your own risk, and we may ask you to sign a separate waiver before flying.
9. Limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by law, FDT Training, its directors, instructors and volunteers are not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from the use of this website or our training. Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have that cannot be limited under Ontario consumer protection law.
10. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless FDT Training and its directors, officers, instructors, flight reviewers and volunteers from any claims, losses, damages, costs and expenses, including reasonable legal fees, that arise from:
- your breach of these terms;
- your misuse of this website or our course materials;
- your breach of any law or regulation, including the Canadian Aviation Regulations; or
- your own drone operations, including any operation outside our supervised training sessions.

We work to keep this website accurate, but information about regulations can change. Always check current requirements with Transport Canada. Links to other websites are provided for convenience; we are not responsible for their content.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there.
13. Changes
We may update these terms. The version posted on this page at the time you register applies to your booking.
